Post & Rail fencing is typically installed around field boundaries and paddocks to create a secure perimeter fence for horses and livestock. Posts are ideally installed at 1.8m intervals and each bay usually has either two or three horizontal rails. We recommend 150mm x 75mm paddock posts with a weather cut top and rails of 100 x 38mm but other options are available.
All of the wood that we use is kiln dried and pressure treated with the posts being Class 4 pressure treated. Under certain circumstances such as when the fence is for agricultural use, we can supply creosoted timber for the construction of the fence.
It may be worth considering other more traditional materials for this type of fencing such as chestnut. A chestnut post and rail fence will last for many years and with all rails being morticed into the posts it creates a very strong fence which is also very attractive to look at. For certain listed properties, a chestnut fence may be the best option to meet planning restrictions.
In all cases, a post and rail fence is a cost effective boundary and is very versatile. It can be used in conjunction with stock wire fences to help secure livestock or pets. Posts can either be concreted in place or simply piled into the ground.
